I hear your words

and pain to touch your skin

beyond, tongue the hidden ache

of your genesis.

Impossibilities are thus cherished,

nurtured, embers blown bright

with extrapolations.

Goodnights always arrive

as dull surprises.

Black Creek Pioneer Village

The white pine timber walls astound

me with their weight, sheer massive

arrogance of the hewer in this

superfluity of wood

enclosing a candle flame.

I lean my ear

to the smoky gleam of wood

and hear above the moan

of winter

the muffled thump

of blood.
